Drinking Water And Weight Loss

Drinking Water and Weight Loss
With over 50% of Americans trying to lose weight, one option to help us lose those unwanted pounds is by drinking water. There are claims that drinking a lot of water will help with weight loss, so let us take a look at this theory and see if there is any truth to it.
We are all aware that in order to lose weight we are to burn more calories than we consume, simple isn’t it, but what weight loss benefits do we get from drinking water?
The Benefits
- Water reduces hunger if you drink a glass before each meal.
- Water will give us more energy which boosts are metabolic rate
- Water makes your metabolism burn calories faster
Other Benefits of Drinking Water
- Younger looking skin
- Flushes toxins and impurities
- Cleanses your liver
- Enhances brain function which keeps you alert
Carbonated Soft Drinks
Ultimately if you are trying to lose weight you should completely remove carbonated soft drinks from your diet, there is nothing but artificial ingredients as well as empty calories and sugar. If you were to eliminate drinking carbonated soft drinks imagine the calories you would save.
Diet Soda
There are those who drink diet sodas thinking that is better for them, they get to save calories therefore they can have their cake and eat it too (no pun intended). You need to know that when you drink diet soda which has artificial sweeteners; you signal to your body that it’s getting calories for energy and sugar, since there are zero calories and only artificial sweeteners in diet soda you confuse your brain which will now crave more sugar until the craving is satisfied.
How Much Water Should You Drink?
There is no right or wrong answer; there are many factors that contribute to this; age, sex, activity level, health, if you’re pregnant or breast feeding and where you live.; a 65 year old woman might need more water than a 35 year old woman or a 50 year old man. Here is a trick that might help you; if you take your body weight and divide the number in half that gives you an approximation of how many ounces of water you need to drink per day.
Water & Exercise
If you are including exercise in your weight loss efforts, I suggest you drink more water to make up for the loss of water that happens during exercise. You should drink some water before, during and after your routine, so you can keep your energy at a high level.
But What If I Don't Like the Taste of Water?
There are some people who simply do not enjoy the taste of water. They are probably those who have only tried unfiltered tap water which can taste different depending on where you live. For those who don’t enjoy the taste try buying spring water, the taste of spring water can differ depending on the brand but I’m sure if you keep trying different ones you will find a brand that you like.
Hyper Hydration
With all these great benefits that water has to offer, you would think that you can basically drink as much as you like without any risk. However, what you may not know is that you can drink too much water and it can be dangerous. In 2007, after entering a radio station’s on-air water drinking contest called "Hold Your Wee for a Wii" a California woman vomited, went home with a terrible headache and later died from water intoxication (hyper–hydration) this is a result when the normal balance of electrolytes in our body is pushed beyond the safe limits by drinking too much water.
In Conclusion...
I think the all the benefits linking drinking water and weight loss are too high to ignore. Water is a wonderful and natural source that we all need to live a healthy life. Incorporating the right amount of water into your day will have you reaping many benefits and also help you shed those extra pounds.

Very informative hub about the importance of drinking water. Think I'll go have a glass now!
Hi JeannieRyan, this is very informative hub. It should convince a lot of people as water also gives so much benefits to our body...hey it's about 60-70% of our body! You might want to read how we ensure adequate intake in our family http://parents-journey.blogspot.com/2009/11/how-to
Congratulations on your nomination. Good work!
Good hub mate! Informative and helpful, I think a lot of it is common sense and you have not really touched on anything new here about water, but as a wise person once said. I pray because I forget. I need to remind myself daily of the good things about our existence. Drinking water is important I will go and get a glass now. Kind regards Bearclaw
What a hub You provide VERY GOOD information so nice to meet you dear
The secret is out. You must know by know that you are a Hubnugget Wannabe! Wooohoo! You know my auntie who has arthritis drank a lot of water every morning when she woke up. We all noticed that her weight really decreased. Great hub. :)

Thank you for the information.
A balance is very much required and that holds true for hydration as well. Thanks for sharing, nice hub.
hey thats a great hub, i love it! one thing tho is that body fat as far as i know is water soluble (not sure if i spelt that right, and such a simple word too! ever get days like that?) anyways, the other thing i've learned and tried out is that you lose the taste for water, strange but true from my experience. when i heard about losing the taste for water i made an effort to drink 4 glasses a day, i found i actually preferred it to tea and coffee after a few days. One other thing, our bodies are designed to run in an alkaline state but most of us are running in an acid state, this is worth checking out as it really does make a difference. i would love to go on but i've rambled enough already. Have a good one, love your hub, good-knight1
I agree totally with your views. I cannot believe people thing nothing of putting gas in drinks! I once had a scan on my kidneys and could see the gas in my inners. The nurse, when I asked, said quite gleefully "oh! It's all perfectly harmless!" -I'm not so sure. I know a true story of a workmate who got quite bloated, and feeling ill went to the doctor. They discovered that all he drank was fizzy pop. He stopped and not only looks better proportioned, came down in weight too!
I would say try not to drink more water than your body can release toxins. Having said that don't forget or under-estimate the value of a good sweat!
Good advice on the importance of water when it comes to weight loss. It's amazing to think just how many calories we can potentially drink without realizing it.
Really enjoyed your hub! Makes me want to drink more water haha

I like this hub. I rally wanted to read it and get proper information on water and diet. I was forced into a water diet as a teen by a parent. Reading your report on hyperhydration made me look back an realize I was forced to drink way too much water for my weight and age. I remember pushing myself to drink the water from this huge container. I was not fat at all looking back.
I am going to let a few of my friend read your hub on water.
thank you
