A New Year a New You
It’s a new year and you’re thinking that it's the perfect time to start a new diet and exercise program, but you don't want to fall into the same old diet traps. You’re probably wondering how to lose weight and keep it off the right way, maybe you’re not sure how to go about it; should you count calories or cut out carbs, maybe count points or eat cabbage soup. There are many options out there for you to lose weight, but you want the solution that will show you how to keep it off too.
Quick isn't always best...
Did you know that most diets are intended to work for only a short period of time, which is not the ideal solution for maintaining weight loss. For the most part we can all make some changes for a limited time, but once the diet ends we are back to eating our old unhealthy ways. This is why the answer to weight loss is by making permanent changes to our eating habits and incorporating a fitness program into our everyday life.
Strength Training
One of the best ways to lose weight and keep it off is by raising your body’s metabolism in order for it to burn more calories. For you to achieve this goal you need to exercise and one of the best exercises out there is strength training. Strength training will make you lean and slim since muscle takes up less room than fat, plus you will burn calories even when you’re not exercising and it will make your bones stronger which can protect your body from injury. You can do it right in the comfort of your own home and it requires very little and inexpensive equipment.
Aerobic Exercises
Fitting aerobic exercise into your daily routine is important and it’s not as hard as you may think. You can start by taking the stairs instead of the elevator that will definitely help your heart rate. Taking a daily walk will help speed up your weight loss efforts; you can go for a quick walk before breakfast or after dinner or both, starting with 10 minutes and working yourself up to 30 minutes. If you have children, you can bring them too, this will teach them the importance of being active as they grow older and keeps the family fit together. There are many different activities you can do to make exercise a part of your daily life and in time it becomes a habit.
Stretching
Stretching is a very important part of any exercise program. Stretching increases your flexibility and circulation and is known to remove stress. It should however be done after a warm up before you exercise, since it is not recommended to stretch cold muscles which can contribute to torn or pulled muscles.
Preferably you should stretch after your work out when your muscles are warm and receptive to stretching. Be gentle you will feel a slight tension when you stretch but if it hurts you've gone too far.
Eating Small Meals
Another way to raise your body’s metabolism rate is by eating smaller meals during the day. This takes a bit of time to get used to but it is possible, you need to plan ahead and start slowly, maybe you can start eating 4 meals a day instead of 3 and you can do this for a week or two and graduate to 5 and finally up to 6 meals a day. Another tip is to start eating smaller meals and incorporating healthy snacks in between meals; like mixed nuts, fruits or half a bagel.
The benefits of eating smaller and more frequent meals during your day are plentiful; it optimizes your digestive system, it helps to maintain your insulin levels, prevents binges, controls cravings and keeps the surplus of calories from building up.
What is the best way?
So if you are still asking yourself how to lose weight and keep it off the right way, you will find that by living a healthier way of life which includes eating 5-6 small meals a day and exercise, you will start seeing results. Another benefit to this new way of living is since you are not following a fad diet you are still allowed what others consider as forbidden foods. Be good to yourself by choosing healthy alternatives to your favorite snacks. If you give yourself permission to enjoy your favorite foods, you will still lose weight because you are not depriving yourself of anything.
